Newcastle United have registered an interest in Torino centre-back Perr Schuurs, according to Gianluca Di Marzio.

Schuurs reportedly cost Torino ‘close to 14 million euros’ when he signed from Ajax in 2022. While no official offer has been made as of yet, Gianluca Di Marzio says that if Newcastle are to snap up the 23-year-old, they will need to pay ‘at least equal to double the purchase price’.

Additionally, the Toon aren’t the only club who are thought to be interested in signing Schuurs – Liverpool are also reportedly looking closely at the player. On top of this, Liverpool are believed to have been monitoring Schuurs for longer than Newcastle have.

Schuurs is currently enjoying a decent season at Torino. Il Vecchio Cuore Granata currently sit 11th in the Serie A table, but the Dutchman has nevertheless attracted attention from elsewhere.

He is a key player at the heart of Torino’s defence – while Schuurs has been out of the starting lineup, they have only managed a single victory in the league.

In many ways, Schuurs is comparable to Sven Botman – both are tall, commanding centre-halves with deceptive ability on the ball. It’s currently unclear what role Newcastle would like Schuurs to play, but he could be a brilliant replacement for the aging Fabian Schar in the long run.
