Ben Jacobs Makes Declan Rice And Moises Caicedo Claim As Newcastle Ponder Size Of Midfielder’s Release Clause

Newcastle will consider the transfer fees that Arsenal and Chelsea paid for Declan Rice and Moises Caicedo if they include a release clause in Bruno Guimaraes’s new contract, according to Ben Jacobs.

The journalist was reacting to reports that a buyout fee could be inserted if the Brazilian agrees to sign an extension when he said the player’s valuation could be measured against similar midfielders:

“It is possible that there will be a release clause inserted into the new deal. That’s maybe the most interesting part of all of this because, if you’re Newcastle and there is a release clause, you’re going to inform that release clause based on Declan Rice and Moises Caicedo. It’s going to be a very high number, well in excess of £100m.”

At the moment, there is no confirmation that such a clause will be included, but it is believed that Guimaraes is close to putting pen to paper on a new deal.

Guimaraes is being rewarded

The 25-year-old signed a four-and-a-half year contract when he joined from Lyon in the 2022 January transfer window, but his performances have warranted an increase on his current £120,000 a week salary.

Guimaraes was a key player in helping the Magpies qualify for the Champions League last season.

Newcastle are also trying to ward off potential suitors

The likes of Liverpool, Chelsea, Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain have been linked with bids for Guimaraes over the past 12 months. It is, therefore, important that the player commits his future to the club to stop others from trying to tempt him away from St James’ Park.

However, the existence of a release clause could increase interest in the player, unless the fee is so high that a deal is deemed unrealistic.
