Reliable Journalist Confirms Newcastle And Chelsea Both Hold ‘Interest’ In £60M Rated Arsenal Star

Newcastle and Chelsea have retained their “interest” in Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale, according to the Daily Mail reporter Sami Mokbel.

The journalist, who has been cited by The Athletic‘s David Ornstein as a good source in the past, claims that Ramsdale is still on the Magpies’ radar.

When the England international lost his place to David Raya in Arsenal’s starting eleven back in September, it was reported that Eddie Howe’s team were one of the keeper’s potential suitors.

At the time, it was claimed that the Gunners were reluctant to let Ramsdale leave, with the London club holding out for as much as £60m.

Arsenal need to free up funds

The stance on selling Ramsdale is believed to have changed in recent months. His club are keen to reinforce their squad with a new striker, midfielder and left-back.

However, due to the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR), they won’t be able to fund those purchases without offloading players.

Ramsdale is seen as one of their most saleable assets and the shot-stopper is also keen to leave in order to get more first-team football.

Do Newcastle need Ramsdale?

With Nick Pope expected to return from a shoulder injury for the start of next season, it is not a position that the Magpies have to strengthen.

Ironically, the club is under pressure to sell due to PSR as well, so splashing out a sizeable sum on Ramsdale is unlikely to be a priority.

Arsenal are rumoured to be interested in two of Newcastle’s players, Alexander Isak and Bruno Guimaraes, so there is a chance that Ramsdale could be offered in some sort of part-exchange deal. Even so, you can’t see the Magpies even entertaining such a proposal.
