Newcastle Star Admits That He Is “Aiming To Move” As Clubs Ponder Triggering Release Clause

Newcastle midfielder Bruno Guimaraes has admitted he would consider leaving St James’ Park.

The Brazilian only signed a new contract back in October but, when speaking about his future plans on international duty, he said:

“I don’t know exactly, I don’t know what’s going to happen. I’m happy at the club, I never know what’s going to happen. We’ll try to get to European tournaments, I can’t say much about football. I don’t know what’s going to happen. I’m happy at the club.”

“I’ve always wanted to play here, I’ve followed the Premier League. Everything’s been going well at Newcastle since I arrived, I play among the best. I plan to play here for a long time, but I’m also aiming to move in the future. I’m happy to be here in the league.”

Guimaraes’ new deal did include a release clause

Respected sources have confirmed that the Magpies agreed to insert a £100m buyout fee in the 26-year-old’s contract, giving the player an avenue to leave the North East in the future.

While Newcastle would much prefer Guimaraes to move abroad if he is sold, the existence of the clause means that they will not have much say on where he goes. His latest comments suggest that he would prefer to stay in the Premier League.

Which clubs are pursuing the Newcastle star?

It has been reported over the past week that Manchester City are the team leading the race for the Brazilian international’s signature. The Premier League champions are said to have already contacted the midfielder’s agents.

Liverpool and Chelsea are the other two English clubs thought to be interested in Guimaraes but they may baulk at the cost of securing the player’s services.
