La Liga Star ‘Attracted’ To Newcastle Move As Magpies Gain Advantage Over Chelsea In £30M Transfer Battle

Valencia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili is “attracted” to the project at Newcastle, according to Relevo.com.

The Spanish website claims that the Magpies are keen on recruiting the Georgian international after sending scouts to see him in action on no less than five occasions this season.

Mamardashvili has been linked with a lot of clubs over the past twelve months but he said to be looking to join a club with ambitions of playing in Europe.

With Eddie Howe’s side now on course to secure a place in next season’s Europa Conference League at the very least, the keeper would be open to making the switch to St James’ Park.

Another Premier League club is also pursuing Mamardashvili

Relevo report that Chelsea are one of the other teams who have kept close tabs on the 23-year-old’s progress in recent months.

However, despite regarding the Blues as a “higher ranking” club, Mamardashvili feels he would be under less pressure if he moved to Newcastle.

In addition to European football and the fact that he would be promised the no.1 spot, the Georgian sees the Magpies as the most enticing option.

Newcastle will have to be mindful of the financial outlay

As every supporter is aware, the club are having to cut their cloth accordingly so they don’t break the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability rules (PSR).

Mamardashvili’s asking price is thought to be in the region of €35m (£30m) so the Magpies will have to decide whether the outlay is worth it or whether they should prioritise other positions, considering their limited spending power.

With Nick Pope expected to return from a shoulder injury in the coming weeks, there is a good argument for putting a bid for Mamardashvili on the back burner.
