REPORT: Newcastle Join Chelsea And Arsenal In ‘Watching’ Ivorian Teenage Prodigy

Newcastle are among the Premier League teams pursuing FC Nordsjaelland midfielder Mario Dorgeles, according to the Evening Standard.

The newspaper claims that the Magpies, Chelsea and Arsenal have all been “watching” the Ivorian this season.

Dorgeles is one of many players who have made the journey from the Right to Dream Academy in Ghana to Nordsjaelland over the past few years.

The Danish side are known for helping to develop some of the brightest young talents in Africa and bringing them to Europe. The likes of Brighton’s Simon Adingra and West Ham’s Muhammed Kudus are just a couple of examples.

Dorgeles is one of their latest recruits, having moved to Denmark at the start of last season.

What do fans need to know about the midfielder?

The 19-year-old made his senior debut for Nordsjaelland in a Europa Conference League qualifier against FCSB in August last year. He has gone on to make 43 first-team appearances.

Dorgeles is a holding midfield player by trade, although he can play slightly further forward as a No.8 if required.

Newcastle’s pursuit of Dorgeles is based on the recommendation of Ashworth

The Evening Standard claim that the Magpies are interested in the Ivorian Under 23 international because he is admired by outgoing sporting director Dan Ashworth.

Therefore, it remains to be seen whether the club will continue to chase Dorgeles if and when Ashworth leaves St James’ Park.

The situation surrounding Ashworth’s move to Manchester United is likely to hinder Newcastle’s transfer activity unless it can be sorted out sooner rather than later.

It would be best for all parties if the club are able to appoint Ashworth’s replacement in short order so they can get on with formulating their plans for the next transfer window.
