Newcastle Eye Summer Bid For Argentinian Ace With £11.2M Release Clause But Chelsea Are Also Keen

Newcastle are weighing up whether to trigger Paulo Dybala’s €13m (£11.2m) release clause at the end of the season, according to Calciomercato.com.

While his clause for January expired on Monday, the Italian website claim that it will be reactivated between July 1st and July 31st.

The buyout fee is only available for foreign clubs with Dybala himself, rather than his club Roma, having a final say on whether he moves teams.

With Newcastle having limited funds, especially if they miss out on Champions League qualification this campaign, the Argentinian international could be an economical solution to strengthen the forward line.

Dybala’s fitness is a major concern

The 30-year-old has already had four separate injuries this campaign, including adductor, knee, hamstring and thigh problems.

It is therefore not a complete surprise that the Magpies are looking for “clarity” on Dybala’s fitness situation before going ahead with any potential transfer. He may be a cheap purchase but, if he spends the majority of his time at St James’ Park on the treatment table, he won’t be much use to anyone.

Newcastle will have to see off Premier League rivals to sign the forward

Calciomercato report that Chelsea have also been keeping an eye on Dybala. Manager Mauricio Pochettino has spoken publicly about his admiration for the player in the past.

The Blues are believed to have considered the 30-year-old as a potential short-term option to reinforce their numbers up front this month. It remains to be seen whether they would still be interested in signing him at the end of the season.

With Dybala’s January buyout clause no longer active, this is a transfer story that may only gather pace once we get closer to the summer.
