Jamaal Lascelles
The most recent captain on the list, Jamaal Lascelles was arguably a lesser defender than Coloccini – but he was a much better choice to don the armband.
Lascelles has been with Newcastle since 2014 – following an impressive run of performances, the former Nottingham Forest academy graduate was named team captain in the 2016/17 season. He took his role very seriously – he never allowed his teammates to give anything less than 100%.
Lascelles’ captaincy has recently been usurped by Kieran Trippier – however, this is more down to the lack of game time that Lascelles is getting, rather than a commentary on his leadership abilities.
