Manchester City Vs Newcastle United: Match Preview & Injury News – Key Player To Return

Newcastle United’s Nick Pope is set to make his return to the starting lineup after serving his one-game suspension after he was sent off against Liverpool.

This will come as fantastic news to Magpies fans, after Lorius Karius’ mediocre performance against Manchester United in the League Cup final on Sunday.

Emil Krafth is the only Toon player who is guaranteed to miss the game against City – the Swedish full-back has been out for the whole season with an ACL injury.

Despite this, superstar creator Bruno Guimaraes is a significant doubt. He picked up a knock in the League Cup final, despite playing most of the game before being brought off for former Arsenal player Joe Willock. His absence would be felt tremendously – but Newcastle have several players who can take his place, such as Joelinton, Elliot Anderson and the aforementioned Willock.

In their last Premier League outing, Newcastle were beaten by Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool. The Reds stunned the Toon with two quickfire goals in the first half – when Nick Pope was sent off for handling the ball outside of his area, the game was effectively over. Liverpool did not add to their goal tally – but they didn’t need to, as the game ended 2-0.

Meanwhile, Manchester City were rampant in their last game, as they defeated Bournemouth by a score of 4-1 at the Vitality Stadium. Julian Alvarez, Erling Haaland and Phil Foden all got in on the act – a goal from the Cherries’ Jefferson Lerma proved to be nothing more than a consolation.
