Newcastle And City Named As “Two Of The Clubs” Pursuing The Next Mo Salah

Newcastle and Manchester City are keeping tabs on Napoli winger Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, according to CBS Sports reporter Ben Jacobs.

The Georgian international, who has been compared to Liverpool’s Mo Salah by ex-England manager Fabio Capello, has been outstanding for Napoli this season and Jacobs claims the Magpies are watching the player:

“Newcastle and Manchester City are two of the clubs in particular, along with others like Real Madrid and PSG, that are looking at Kvaratskhelia. It’s obvious why because ultimately, he’s had a standout season, scoring goals and getting assists for fun. He’s scored 10 goals in Serie A in only 20 matches, and it’s an incredible rise really.”

Kvaratskhelia only made the move to Italy for €12m last summer but, as Jacobs mentions, he has had a fantastic campaign for Napoli, who are on course to win their first Serie A title in thirty years.

The 22-year-old’s value has skyrocketed, with many now claiming he could be worth up to €100m (£88.6m). Of course, Newcastle are not exactly short of money and they won’t have any issues matching the winger’s price tag.

There are Financial Fair Play considerations, though, and you would have to think that Eddie Howe’s side would need to secure Champions League qualification in order to persuade Kvaratskhelia into moving to St James’ Park.
