Newcastle want to renew Bruno Guimaraes’s contract and they have already “started talks” about extending his current deal, according to iG Esporte.
The Brazilian only joined the Magpies from Lyon for £40m in January last year, but there has been a lot of interest in the player from other clubs in recent months.
Rival Premier League teams Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester City have been linked with Guimaraes while fresh reports in recent days have also mentioned Real Madrid as a potential suitor.
To end the speculation, it appears Newcastle are willing to increase the midfielder’s £120,000 a week salary. He is already the club’s top earner, along with Alexander Isak, but they are said to be preparing a significant wage hike.
Guimaraes’s contract still has the best part of three and a half years left to run, but it is also thought that the Magpies will propose an extension, which they believe will also help ward off possible bids.
