Newcastle striker Callum Wilson has become the first Magpies player to score 15 Premier League goals in a single season since Demba Ba managed the feat in 2012.
The England international’s brace in the 3-1 win over Southampton at the weekend proved pivotal in securing the three points.
Fans on Twitter have been full of praise for Wilson, and many are hoping that the forward stays at St James’ Park beyond the summer:
Phenomenal! Bare in mind he’s been fully fit for maybe 20 games

And he’s not done yet

Has to be retained and not sold on… he’s a huge part of the club!

And yet people wanted to get rid of him lol. I get his injury record, but he should always stay.

Wilson is now only one league goal behind Marcus Rashford and, considering the season that the Manchester United forward has had, that is some accomplishment. The Newcastle ace has also matched Arsenal’s Gabriel Martinelli’s total.
When you also take into account that the 31-year-old missed a number of games due to the injury earlier in the campaign, the achievement is all the more impressive. He will be looking to end the season on a high and help fire the Magpies to a top-four finish.
