REPORT: Newcastle United Striker Set To Join Premier League Rivals

Newcastle United striker Chris Wood is set to join fellow Premier League Nottingham Forest for a £15 million transfer fee, according to Fabrizio Romano on Twitter.

Wood has fallen out of favour at Newcastle – he found himself behind in the pecking order due to the arrival of Alexander Isak and the good form of Callum Wilson.

According to Romano, an arrangement for Wood’s transfer had been put in place back in January. The fee itself amounts to £15 million – which is £10 million less than the amount the Toon paid for him back in 2022.

In Romano’s tweet, he wrote: “Nottingham Forest have made Chris Wood move permanent for £15m fee — deal was already agreed in January with Newcastle. Contract signed on player side too.”

Chris Wood’s time at Newcastle United

Wood signed for Newcastle United in January 2022 for a fee of £25 million from Burnley. While he initially viewed the jump as an ‘exciting opportunity’, his gametime at the club became limited.

In total, Wood scored just four goals in 35 games for the Magpies. On January 20, 2023, he joined Nottingham Forest on loan – which is where he remains to this day.

Chris Wood career summary

The nomadic career of Chris Wood began life in his native New Zealand at Onehunga Sports. In 2003, at the age of just 12, Wood joined the academy of Cambridge FC.

In 2009, Wood was headhunted and snapped up by West Bromwich Albion. However, he would only score a single goal for the Baggies and spent the majority of his time there out on loan.

He impressed scouts at Leicester, who signed him up in 2012. He began to establish himself as a top-quality Championship striker – in 2015, the Kiwi hitman began to turn even more heads as he joined Leeds United.

He scored an impressive 41 goals in 83 games for the Whites, before he joined Premier League outfit Burnley in 2017 for a believed fee of £15 million – which was a club record for the Clarets.
