REPORT: Newcastle United To ‘Cash In’ On Fan-Favourite Winger

Newcastle United are reportedly planning to ‘cash in’ on French wide man Allan Saint-Maximin in the summer, according to a report from TalkSPORT.

Saint-Maximin hasn’t enjoyed his best season at Newcastle so far. Currently, the 26-year-old has scored just one goal in the Premier League this year – he has also struggled with multiple hamstring injuries.

With the arrival of Anthony Gordon at St. James’ Park, who signed from Everton in January, Saint-Maximin’s playing time could become even more limited than it already is – he has started just 37% of the Toon’s Premier League games this season.

Despite this, Saint-Maximin remains a very popular figure at the Toon. It isn’t difficult to see why – his spellbinding skills and mazy runs are always an absolute joy to watch.

However, football is not an entertainment business – it is a results business. Saint-Maximin’s end product has consistently been called into question and it has shown no signs of improvement over the last 12 months.

If the Magpies do decide to sell Saint-Maximin, it would be an unfortunate way for his Newcastle career to end. This season could (and possibly should) have been a breakout year for the uncapped Frenchman, but injuries, inconsistent form and new signings in his position have all prevented this.

He is under contract until 2026 – therefore, any club that wishes to purchase Saint-Maximin will be required to pay a fee.
