Newcastle midfielder Bruno Guimaraes will have a release clause in his new contract, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.
The Brazilian is poised to sign an extension, keeping him at St James’ Park until 2028, but Romano says a buyout fee “in the region” of £100m will be included:

As Romano says, Guimaraes is delighted to commit his long-term future to the Magpies but the existence of a release clause does raise one or two questions about how long the player will stick around.
£100m in this day and age is not a fee beyond the reach of most clubs, and there will be concerns that a team could pay it in a future transfer window.
Guimaraes has been linked with rivals
Both Chelsea and Liverpool have been mentioned as potential suitors for the 25-year-old in recent months, and it’s unlikely either club would be put off by the release clause.
Chelsea have already spent over £100m on two separate occasions for midfielders. Liverpool, meanwhile, lost out to the Blues for Moises Caicedo despite tabling a £110m bid.
There is also the possibility that a club like Paris Saint-Germain could swoop in and sign Guimaraes, with the Ligue One champions having also been credited with an interest previously.
Success on the pitch will help Newcastle keep the player
It should be pointed out that, even if a team does pay the release fee in the future, Guimaraes doesn’t have to leave. He is clearly very happy at the Magpies but, to make sure it stays that way, progress has to be made on the pitch.
The only real guarantee of keeping hold of the Brazilian international in the long term is if the club wins games and trophies.
