Ecuadorian Starlet Makes Key Decision On His Future Amid Interest From Newcastle, Arsenal And Brighton

Swansea City winger Aimar Govea has decided to remain in South Wales despite interest from Newcastle and other clubs, according to Wales Online.

The Ecuadorian Under 17 international could have opted against signing on to professional terms with the Championship club, allowing him to join the Magpies for a nominal fee.

However, Govea has put pen to paper on a two-year contract, with Swansea having the option to extend his stay for another twelve months.

The 17-year-old has yet to make his senior debut for Swansea but he has impressed for the club’s Under 18 side, which is where he came to the attention of other teams.

Govea is on the radar of plenty of clubs

Wales Online claim that Arsenal, Brighton and Southampton all have a “serious interest” in the teenager, but Newcastle were the only English team to make a formal enquiry.

It is believed that Eddie Howe’s side and a number of Spanish clubs did make “tentative” steps to snap up Govea but those efforts have likely ceased following the news that the Ecuadorian has committed his future to Swansea.

Newcastle are expected to continue watching the player’s progress

After performing well for the Under 18s, it is expected that the winger will now be promoted to Swansea’s Under 21 setup. It will then be decided whether he is good enough for the first team or if he needs to go out on loan.

Govea will also have to make a decision about his international career at some point. While he has made appearances recently for Ecuador at under 17 level, he is eligible to play for Spain too.

With Newcastle keen to recruit the best homegrown players, you can guarantee that the youngster will remain on the club’s radar.
