Newcastle are “ready” to sell striker Callum Wilson this summer, according to TEAMtalk.

The website claims that the Magpies were open to offers during the January transfer window but no bids were made for the England international, who has been capped 9 times by his country.

Wilson will have a year left on his contract at the end of the season, and the club feel it is the right time to cash in and find a replacement.

The 31-year-old has been a top performer for Eddie Howe’s side in recent seasons, having finished last campaign with 18 Premier League goals.

However, Newcastle need to raise funds in order to keep within Financial Fair Play regulations and they have identified Wilson as a prime candidate to offload.

Who will be interested in signing Wilson?

Despite his excellent goal record, there are concerns about the player’s injury history. He has spent 402 days on the sidelines over the last four and a half years.

That poor fitness record, combined with Wilson’s age, is thought to have put off potential suitors in January.

Chelsea and Tottenham were reportedly both offered the chance to sign the forward but TEAMtalk claim neither club are interested in recruiting him.

Who could Newcastle sign as a replacement?

The likes of Brentford’s Ivan Toney and Bournemouth’s Dominic Solanke have been mentioned as possible targets. Toney is likely to be available for a reduced price in the summer as, like Wilson, his contract expires in 2025. The Magpies also have a sell-on clause on their former player which means it could cost them even less to secure his services. However, competition for the 27-year-old will be fierce.

Solanke will likely be more expensive than Toney. He has been in great form for Bournemouth this campaign (scoring 15 goals in 27 appearances), and he signed a new contract back in September.
