‘It’s Over’ Newcastle Fan-Favourite Issues Huge Transfer Statement

Newcastle United Kieran Trippier has been linked heavily with a move to Bayern Munich in the January transfer window – but a recent statement from the Bury-born man has quashed any rumours that he will be leaving St. James’ Park this month.

While rumours of Trippier’s departure have been abundant in the last two weeks, as Bayern look to snap up English talents to help Harry Kane settle in, they have been spectacularly dashed by the 33-year-old in a recent interview.

Speaking to BBC Radio Newcastle [via Goal], Trippier said: “There’s no place I’d rather be. There’s been a lot of speculation about me recently but, as always, I’m committed here. 100% committed, as I have been since I first signed.

“It’s over. As I’ve said before, I’m committed. I’ve had a nice break with my family and I’m not worrying about anything. I’m committed to the club – they’ve done a lot for me and I want to give back. I’ve been quiet but not thrown my toys out of the pram or anything. I’m happy here, like I’ve always said, and want to give everything for the club.”

Should Newcastle United sell Kieran Trippier in the January transfer window?

While the offer to cash in on an aging player may have been initially tempting, Trippier’s importance to the Magpies’ squad is simply much greater than the amount that was offered. Even though he has shown lapses of poor form this season, his wide skill set and fantastic attitude make him borderline invaluable.

This season, Trippier has made 19 Premier League appearances, racking up seven assists – making him one of the most creative defenders in the division. His defensive attributes have often been called into question by his critics, but his attacking talents more than make up for any deficiencies in this area.
