Newcastle and Arsenal could be set to battle it out for Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic this summer, according to the Gazzetta Dello Sport.
The Serbian international was pursued by both teams last year but, at the time, he was not interested in making the move to either club.
With the Magpies and the Gunners now having reignited their pursuit for Milinkovic-Savic, Gazzetta claims that the player is open to a switch to England.
The Premier League is deemed to be a “very welcome destination” by the 28-year-old, who is closing in on the final year of his contract.
Lazio are reluctant to sell one of their best players but, with there being no agreement over an extension, Milinkovic-Savic could be offloaded when the transfer window opens for around €40m (£35m).
Newcastle’s chances of beating Arsenal will probably depend on Champions League qualification, with the Gunners having already secured a top-four finish.
