Newcastle Eyeing Summer Swoop For Controversial France International Who Was Dumped By Arsenal

Newcastle are keeping tabs on Marseille midfielder Matteo Guendouzi, according to reports in the French media.

The France international famously fell out with Mikel Arteta during his time at Arsenal before he was loaned out and (eventually) sold to Marseille last year for a reported £9m.

Just a season after snapping up Guendouzi on a permanent basis, though, Marseille are said to be open to selling the 24-year-old for a profit, so they can fund moves for other players.

It is believed that the Magpies, West Ham and Aston Villa are the three teams that will be vying for the Frenchman’s signature this summer.

The Villans are thought to have an advantage due to the fact that their manager, Unai Emery, signed Guendouzi for Arsenal, and there is still reportedly a strong relationship between the two.

Newcastle, meanwhile, do have other midfield targets they are looking at. Sporting Lisbon’s Manuel Ugarte and Lazio’s Sergej Milinkovic-Savic have both been linked very recently.
