Newcastle Have ‘Already’ Been In Contact With Chelsea This Summer About £20M Transfer

Newcastle have “already informed” Chelsea that they are not interested in signing Christian Pulisic this summer, according to The Athletic.

The Magpies did approach the Blues last year about a potential loan deal, but they have now cooled their pursuit of the American international.

Pulisic is not expected to go for a high price due to the fact that he has only a year left on his contract at Stamford Bridge. A team could potentially secure his signature for just £20m.

However, it appears Newcastle boss Eddie Howe has decided to move on to other transfer targets.

Newcastle are expected to pursue a right winger

Providing competition for Miguel Almiron on the right flank is believed to be one of the Magpies’ priorities for the summer transfer window.

While Pulisic would seem to fit the bill, it seems as if the club have decided that there are better options on the market.

Bayer Leverkusen’s Moussa Diaby has been a long-term target, while Barcelona’s Raphinha has been mentioned in the Spanish media as a player that Newcastle are pursuing.

Pulisic’s poor injury record and inconsistent form

While the Chelsea star is undoubtedly a talented player, he has missed a lot of football over the last four years due to fitness problems.

Pulisic has been unavailable for a total of 55 matches due to various injuries, including knee, ankle, hamstring, calf and other muscular issues.

Combined with the fact that the 24-year-old has scored just 26 times in 145 appearances for the Blues, Newcastle clearly felt that he isn’t worth the gamble.

Pulisic’s likeliest destination this summer is Italy, with the likes of Juventus, Napoli and AC Milan all believed to be keen on snapping him up. Fans of the American will be hoping that he can realise his potential in Serie A, having failed to hit the heights expected of him in the Premier League.
