REPORT: Newcastle United Interested In 76-Cap Playmaker For Transfer

Newcastle United are reportedly interested in Turkish midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu, with a potential transfer in mind [via Calcio Mercato].

According to Calcio Mercato, Newcastle are willing to pay around £30-35 million for the 29-year-old. Despite this, a move will only materialise if the Toon succeed in their quest to qualify for the Champions League next season.

The current season been a particularly fruitful one for Calhanoglu – while Inter Milan haven’t performed especially well in the Serie A, they have defied all odds to reach the Champions League final, where they will face off against Manchester City.

Hakan Calhanoglu career summary

Calhanoglu’s career began at Karlsruher SC, where he was immediately noticed for his adroit passing and wonderful ability from set-pieces. In 2013, he was snapped up by Hamburg.

After an impressive season with Die Rothosen, he was signed by Bayer Leverkusen, where he began to attract global attention. His stint there began well, but deteriorated as time went on. He moved to AC Milan in 2017, where he donned the famous number ten jersey.

In 2021, Calhanoglu did the unthinkable – he signed for bitter rivals Inter Milan on a free transfer. Since then, he has scored ten goals in 65 games for La Beneamata.

This season, Calhanoglu has scored four goals in 42 appearances, alongside eight assists in all competitions. Can he replicate this at St. James’ Park?
