REPORT: Newcastle United Resume Transfer Interest In 37-Cap Midfielder

Newcastle United have been linked with a transfer for box-to-box Juventus midfielder Adrien Rabiot, according to a report from Calciomercato.

With Rabiot’s contract set to expire in the summer of 2023, should he fail to sign a new deal with the Old Lady, he will become available on a free transfer.

With eight goals and three assists so far in the Serie A this season, this appears to be a steal – even if Newcastle already have a very strong midfield, with players such as Bruno Guimaraes, Joelinton and Joe Willock.

Should the Toon succeed in their bid to acquire Rabiot, being an energetic central midfielder, he would likely do battle for a place in the first team with Joelinton.

Despite their interest, the Magpies aren’t the only ones who are thought to be in the race to snap up Rabiot. Manchester United, Chelsea and Bayern Munich are also believed to be in the hunt for the French midfield wizard.

Adrien Rabiot career summary

Rabiot’s career began with stints in several different youth academies – in 2008, he had a brief stay in Manchester City’s youth setup.

The 28-year-old made his senior debut at PSG – he would go on to spend seven years with the Parisians, making 150 appearances and scoring 13 goals. In that time, he also enjoyed a short loan stay at Toulouse.

In 2019, Rabiot joined Juventus after he was released by PSG. He has played 123 times for Juve, scoring 13 goals – but his time with the Italian giants appears to be coming to an end.

On top of all this, Rabiot has also been capped on numerous occasions for France. In total, he has won 37 caps for his country, scoring three international goals. Furthermore, he was also part of the France setup that finished second in the 2022 World Cup – he was not in the squad for their 2018 World Cup victory.
