Newcastle Are Among ‘Several Teams’ Who Have Made ‘Proposals’ To Sign Spanish Star On Free Transfer

Newcastle United are one of “several teams” who have made “proposals” to Benfica left-back Alejandro Grimaldo, according to AS.

The Spanish newspaper claims that the Magpies, Fulham, Bayer Leverkusen and Juventus have “already” put offers on the table, with Atletico Madrid likely to follow suit.

Grimaldo is out of contract at the end of the season, and he is allowed to hold formal talks with clubs ahead of a free transfer this summer.

Newcastle are known to be in the market for a left-back, having recently been linked with Arsenal’s Kieran Tierney. The former Celtic defender could, though, cost £30m.

With Grimaldo available on a free, it’s not surprising that he is being looked at as an alternative. The defender is still a regular starter for Benfica and he is vastly experienced at the highest level, having made 64 appearances in European competitions. We shall see if Eddie Howe’s side win the race for his signature.
